New Gender and STI Assessment: Argentina

WISAT and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) are happy to announce that the National Assessment on Gender and STI for Argentina is now available.  It is produced by Gloria Bonder – WISAT Board Member and Coordinator of the UNESCO Chair on Women in S&T in Latin America (FLACSO, Argentina). The study is part of a new set of Assessments currently ongoing in Latin America with the support of The Elsevier Foundation. Studies from Mexico and Chile will be completed in the near future.

The Argentina report notes that it was not until the turn of the millennium that a real interest began to develop in development of an Argentina knowledge society and in the STI system among organizations and research networks. But more recently the spread of ICT and their impact on every sphere of economic, social, and political life; greater recognition of the importance of scientific advances to economic development; and the progress of women in education and politics are increasing understanding of women’ representation in  the KS.  The report is available here.
